The Sun Devil Fitness Complex in Tempe, originally constructed in 1989 and then expanded in 2013, totals more than 234,000 square feet of indoor recreation space. There is also an outdoor pool holding more than 1,000,000 gallons. This building, which is so much more than just a gym, hosts more than 900 events a year. Come on the tour to learn from those who program and operate the building each day.  

Attendees of this precon will also have the unique chance to tour a shared use ice arena that is one of a kind in the country. Home of both Sun Devil Hockey and the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes, this intimate 5,000 seat arena doesn’t have a bad seat in the house! Opened in 2022, this multipurpose venue on the Arizona State University campus is home to a variety of sports and events. Come see what all the buzz is about!

Camelback Mountain gets its name from the unique silhouette it casts on the Valley skyline. It’s considered one of the nation’s top hiking destinations and attracts visitors from around the world. The two main trails that comprise the vast majority of hiking opportunities are rated Extremely Difficult and subject hikers to steep elevation gains, uneven terrain, and a path that is unprotected from the elements.

This group will be hiking the Cholla Trail which is a 3.0-mile out-and-back trail with 1,279ft of elevation gain near Paradise Valley, Arizona. This is a very popular area for hiking, so you’ll likely encounter other people while exploring. Some technical sections of terrain feature loose rock and scrambling down or up boulders. It is suggested to bring plenty of water because most of the route is exposed, and there are no water sources. Phoenix average temperatures in April during the time of our hike will range from 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit.  

After the hike, participants will be shuttled to Ohso Brewery where they may purchase food or beverages as well as enjoy the fun interactive atmosphere Ohso Brewery has to offer.

The Sun Devil Fitness Complex has generously opened their doors to allow all NIRSA Annual Conference attendees to workout throughout their time at the conference as well as to tour the facility on their own if they wish. The Sun Devil Fitness Complex is located only a few blocks from the Phoenix Convention Center and host hotels.

• Saturday: 9:00am-9:00pm
